Car leasing has become big business.  Only 20 to 30 years ago car leasing was an afterthought for most car buyers.  At that time, most consumers wanted to own their vehicle, and car prices were much lower.  It was not unimaginable that you could own a semi-luxury car and it wouldn’t drain away your life savings.  It was a status symbol if you owned your own “luxury” sedan outright.  It was almost similar to owning versus renting a home.  Who would want to be a tenant when you could just as easily be a homeowner?  Today, things have changed, as more and more people are leasing their cars.  So what changed so drastically?

Changes in technology and design
With car designs and technology changing just about every year or so, people want to feel like they have the latest and greatest in both technological advances and overall design.  For example, more and more car manufacturers are placing GPS systems as standard equipment, which is a real time saver for anyone involved in traveling sales.  Imagine that you’re meeting a new client in a part of town that you’ve never visited.  You don’t want to be late, but you have no idea how to find your new client.  With a GPS system, you don’t have to worry, as you’ll be automatically directed to your client’s address.

Improved safety design is another key factor in car leasing.  Older model cars might not have the latest safety developments installed in their cars.  For example, newer model cars are equipped with four, and even up to six airbags.  Compare that with an older model car (even just a few years old) that only has two front airbags.  That’s a real flaw for a family of four.  You can’t even put a prize on the safety factor.

Luxury that’s affordable
Prices for luxury or semi-luxury leased cars are not that more expensive than purchasing a new car.  Many dealerships advertise huge savings on leased cars throughout the year so that they can move their cars and attract customers to their lots.  You’ll commonly see ads posting “0” down and low monthly payments, especially during holiday time like the fourth of July and Labor Day weekend.  Imagine driving out with a brand new Acura Legend with no money down and affordable monthly payments!
